Echo Wall

Our first film, Echo Wall, was released on DVD on October 19th 2008. A couple of years ago Dave started working on a project up on the north face of Ben Nevis. He said it would take him a long time to prepare for, maybe years. We moved house to the foot of the mountain in 2007 and Dave started training and preparing himself for the big arête of Echo Wall.

Bafta Award nominatedWe spent more than all our savings on all the equipment to make a film and Claire began filming Dave’s progress on the route. It became a mission and after 30 days on the north face this summer, Dave completed the route. Although he did not grade the climb, Echo Wall is the hardest and most dangerous route he’s ever climbed.

Our film takes you into the thoughts, training and outlook of someone with more than their fair share of stubborness and motivation, and shows you exactly what it takes to break new ground in traditional climbing these days.

The film is also packed with many other recent new climbs of Dave’s in the lovely locations of Glen Nevis, other parts of the Highlands as well as soloing Darwin Dixit 8c in Spain and the first ascent of Don’t Die of Ignorance XI, 11 on Ben Nevis.

You can see the trailer and order a copy of the DVD here and see the full credits and soundtrack info here.

Echo Wall has won a BAFTA with Claire's nomination for best director at the 2009 BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards.

Training Day

As part of his training for Echo Wall, Dave felt that he needed to test his ability to climb very close to his physical limit, in a situation where a fall was unthinkable. He decided to solo an 8c sport route in Spain as a training climb for this.

Although part of the Echo Wall film, we decided that the story and footage of soloing Darwin Dixit was good enough to make into a short film of it’s own.
